The offseason award for “Craziest New College Football Uniforms” goes to the Miami (OH) RedHawks.
A school that traditionally had some of the most boring uniforms in college football teamed up with Adidas to become the Oregon Ducks of Ohio with some bold new uniforms and helmets for the 2013 season.
As you can see from the pictures below, Miami has gone with a bright red helmet combined with a wild feather design that encompasses the helmet. The school’s traditional block “M” sits above the forehead and the word “MIAMI” is printed across the back in huge letters. The lid has been aptly compared on Twitter to a bowling bowl.
The uniforms also appear to be from the future with the word “Miami” across the length of the shoulders and the tire-shred design on the chest that Adidas is trying to make popular.
We like the fact that the RedHawks went bold, as opposed to their snooze-inducing uniforms of the past, and the shininess of the new red helmet. But there’s a sore lack of execution with the bizarre feather design, the block “M” above the eyes and the uniforms in general that we just aren’t a fan of. Grade: C
