Michigan head coach Brady Hoke irked Ohio State fans last year when he constantly referred to the Buckeyes as just “Ohio” and now it appears new Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer is returning the favor.
In an interview with a Cleveland radio station on Thursday, Meyer said of Michigan, “We don’t use their name” at all because of his affinity for Woody Hayes, who referred to the Wolverines as simply “That Team Up North.”
That’s apparently what Meyer is going to be doing as well after posting this 2012 schedule at the Woody Hayes Athletic Center without Michigan’s logo and the words “That Team Up North” where Michigan’s name would normally be. This is nothing new for Meyer, who while at Florida called Florida State “The School Out West.”

Asked about the slight, Michigan athletic director AD Dave Brandon responded, “I don’t know how to read all that… And frankly, I don’t care a whole lot to how they refer to us.”
We’re not really sure about the purpose of Hoke and Meyer’s tomfoolery but we are all now dumber because of it.

Urban refered to BYU as “that team down south” while he was at Utah. I agree with Tom, that is the way it should be.
Is Meyer even from Ohio? I get other Michigan and Ohio coaches that have done this, but they were actually from Michigan or Ohio. Correct me if im wrong, but i dont think Meyer is from either state.

Meyer shows up in Columbus and immediately becomes boorish, ill mannered and disrespectful. Maybe he can really follow in Woody’s footsteps by running out of gas in Michigan while on a recruiting trip and eventually lose his job when he slugs an opposing player. He’s already on the Big Ten Coaches S list.

As a Michigan fan, I love it. No other rivalry in football is like this. It will only help in exposure and popularity of THE GAME.
Don’t forget that the name of “Meyer” is starting with “M”.
You girly men from the school up north need to understand the only UM in a national Championship game will be wwearing Scarlett and Gray…Live with it. You 15 minutes of fame in the last game only gave the buckeyes a springboard to the beginning of another 10 years of showing you how weak you really are….Go Bucks !!
Come on Buckeye fans, when referring to that team up north, the proper way is scUM. When referring to The Ohio State University, the proper way is tOSU.

So Hoke shortened the name and Meyer just made the name much longer. That’s nice. Still crying about 2008? I will say this, love that the rivalry is back in full swing and love that the Big Ten is being revived.

You may want to check your history there Bob. Back when all the state lines were being decided on – you Ohieran’s traded us a little strip that now forms Toledo, for the entire upper peninsula. I’d say Michigan came out ahead on that deal. Canadia was never in the mix
I agree that you can hate OSU or UM but this really great for the Big 10 and the rivalry between these two schools. Next few years should be awesome.
