Tyrann Mathieu realizes he has lots of damage control to do in advance of April’s 2013 NFL Draft. During an interview with ESPN on Saturday, the former LSU star CB tried to show how regretful he was of the drug problems that torpedoed his career with the Tigers.
“I abused myself through marijuana,” Mathieu tearfully told Joe Schad. “Was I addicted to it? Maybe. Did I form a habit of it? Yes. When people didn’t think I had a good game or I didn’t have the greatest practice ever, I didn’t go into the office and try to figure out what was going on. I just automatically abused myself.”
Mathieu also said that he’s quit marijuana cold turkey in advance of the draft, where he’s projected as a mid-round pick.
Compared to the swaggering Honey Badger we watched on the field in 2010 and 2011, to see Mathieu so choked up is quite the contrast. Here’s hoping that he truly has turned his life around and can land on an NFL team for the 2013 season.
