The 2012–2013 season has been short on highlights for a Marist basketball team that finds itself at the bottom of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference standings. But on Thursday, sophomore guard Chavaughn Lewis gave the Red Foxes and their fans a memory they won’t soon forget.
Trailing conference rival Iona, 94–91, with 2.6 seconds left in overtime, Lewis received the inbounds pass and let a desperation heave fly from 65 feet out. Miraculously it went it, sending the game to a second OT where Marist would prevail, 105–104.
There’s a flip side to great moments like this. If you look near the bottom left corner of the video at the seven-second mark, one Iona player reacts to the shot going in like he just got kicked in the groin. We don’t blame him.
