Have you been wondering how Heisman Trophy winner Johnny Manziel has had so much time to party at Mardi Gras, make trick shot videos with Dude Perfect and sit courtside at NBA games with his fetching girlfriend while remaining a Texas A&M student? Well, we have your answer.
While meeting with reporters before a recent Davey O’Brien Award dinner, Manziel said that he’s taking all his classes online this spring semester and is only on campus once a month.
It’s not unusual for transcendent, superstar college athletes to take such drastic actions in order to avoid being a distraction — BYU asked former star basketball player Jimmer Fredette to stop attending classes for the same reason during his star turn in 2011 — but it will nonetheless give more ammo to those Johnny Football critics who think the QB is too much of a party animal.
While we’re not among those critics, we agree with Yahoo! Sports’ Graham Watson’s assessment: It’s hard to be a big man on campus when you’re not actually on campus.
