Texas A&M redshirt freshman QB Johnny Manziel is having a first collegiate season for the ages. In accounting for 33 total TDs — 18 passing and 15 rushing — and guiding the Aggies to a shocker of top-ranked Alabama on Saturday, he has made fans across the country sit up and take notice of the player nicknamed “Johnny Football.”
A nickname that Manziel and his family are now working with Texas A&M to trademark.
This is not an effort for either the Manziels or A&M to profit off of Johnny’s nickname (at least not immediately). Rather, they would use the trademark status to prevent others from doing so.
Quite the turnaround for a first-year player whose first major headline involved a shirtless mug shot.
