First it was Texas A&M and freshman QB Johnny Manziel trademarking “Johnny Football,” now the Mid-American Conference is trying to trademark the popular Twitter hashtag “#MACtion” to describe the conference’s midweek televised games that are often high scoring and full of wild plays like Kent State’s Andre Parker running the wrong way earlier this season (below).
“Shirts could be on the website by the end of the week,” Commissioner Jon Steinbrecher told CBSSports.com.
With the MAC Championship Game on Friday between No. 17 Kent State and No. 21 Northern Illinois with a possible Orange Bowl berth on the line, this appears to be the perfect time for the conference to cash in on the trademark – as ridiculous as the idea may sound.
