As terrible as Marcus Lattimore’s season-ending injury was, it has proven to bring out the best from the rest of the college football world. That includes players on rival SEC teams.
Starting with Saturday’s game against Alabama, LSU defensive end Sam Montgomery will prominently display Lattimore’s No. 21 on the tape he wears on his arm for the rest of the season. Montgomery had initially requested to switch his jersey number from 99 to 21 but was forced to pursue other options in light of two other Tigers players having that number already.
Like Lattimore, Montgomery grew up in South Carolina. “He is a dear friend,” the defensive lineman told LSU SID Bill Martin.
Expect plenty of close-ups courtesy of CBS on Montgomery’s arm tape on Saturday night. And with good reason.
