If he’s going to be a part of international play, Kyrie Irving will have to do it for Team USA.
According to a tweet from DraftExpress.com’s Jonathan Givony, Irving was “strongly considering” playing for the Australian national team.
The former Duke point guard, expected to go first overall in next month’s draft, was born in Australia and holds dual citizenship. But since he played for USA basketball last summer after turning 18, FIBA rules prohibit him suiting up for the Aussies.

It seems pretty unfair that Irving can’t play for the Australian team considering he was born in the country and has dual citizenship while the Los Angeles Clippers’ Chris Kaman played for Germany in the 2008 Olympics because his great-grand parents were German and was granted citizenship there.
Sorry, mates, back to the drawing board down under.

guess kyrie can’t always have his cake and eat it too!
