Lane Kiffin’s younger brother, Chris, is rising up the college coaching ranks as Ole Miss’ defensive line coach and an ace recruiter. And he understands teenagers’ penchant for (over)using social media as a communication device.
During his recruitment of OT Laremy Tunsil, Kiffin sent roughly 800 Facebook messages to Tunsil and another 400 to Tunsil’s girlfriend – which is within NCAA rules. Said Kiffin in an interview with the Jackson Clarion-Ledger: “A lot of coaches have (staff) guys run their Facebooks, but I wanted it to be like if you’re texting somebody. I asked about his family … It’s just striking up conversation.”
We understand the value of selling a recruit’s closest confidantes on a school, but 400 Facebook messages? We doubt that Tunsil himself has sent even a fraction of that to his own girlfriend.
