Div II Guard Goes by ‘Cornbread’ Walker

If a senior guard at Division II Kentucky Wesleyan College has his way during the 2012–2013 season, he’ll be serving the Panthers’ opponents extra helpings of cornbread.

Not literally. That’s just the nickname everyone calls Cornelius Walker by, as well as how he’s listed on KWC’s athletics website.

“Cornbread” transferred to Kentucky Wesleyan before the 2011–2012 season after spending two years at Wabash Valley College. While he made his mark as a three-point specialist (he was second on the Panthers with 38 treys), it was his name that got everyone talking.

“My grandma and my mom got me addicted to it,” Walker said last January when explaining the origin of his nickname. Apparently, little has changed since Walker’s childhood, as teammates say that his appetite for the treat is insatiable.

Here’s hoping that Kentucky Wesleyan’s “Cornbread” doesn’t go stale during his senior season.
