Big 12 Media Days now features two recently married starting quarterbacks. Both of whom tied the knot with women’s basketball players from their respective schools.
Oklahoma’s Landry Jones married Sooners guard Whitney Hand in early July, while Kansas State’s Collin Klein married former Wildcats basketball player Shalin Spani this past Saturday. Spani’s father is Gary Spani, a former linebacker who was K-State’s first consensus All-American (1977). Shalin is now the women’s basketball team’s coordinator of office operations.
Klein and Spani were married after just a five-month engagement. A Topeka Capital-Journal story from Monday says the proposal came mere weeks after their first date.
Thus far, Klein hasn’t had much time to enjoy life with his new wife, as he is in the middle of his Media Days tour. Klein and Spani are headed to Cancun for their honeymoon later this week.
“It was awesome,” Klein said of the wedding, which featured K-State coach Bill Snyder and Sooners backup QB Blake Bell among its guests. “It was great. We are both very blessed.”
When Oklahoma State won the conference title last year, it was behind the arm of a married QB (Brandon Weeden). Now the signal-callers for two of the contenders in 2012 are hitched. Might we be witnessing a trend?
