K-State Players: Is West Virginia a State?

West Virginia Mountaineers fans take as much pride in their state, if not more, as they do in their athletic teams. That has apparently fallen on deaf ears among their new Big 12 Conference rivals.

While taking in a football practice at WVU’s Week 8 opponent, Kansas State, ESPN.com senior writer Mitch Sherman quoted Wildcats wide receiver Chris Harper as saying that his teammates debated whether West Virginia is, in fact, one of the 50 states.

ESPN’s Brad Nessler committed the same geographical faux pas on live TV in January but don’t be shocked to see Mountaineers fans make Kansas State players pay for the mistake when they visit Morgantown on Saturday.

Apparently a sense of humor is not a characteristic of West Virginians?

They indeed have a fierce sense of pride. (I grew up there & moved to Texas 20 yrs ago.) You wouldn’t like being the butt of jokes for 100 years either.

A sense of humor??  There is nothing funny about it.  Apparently, intelligence is not a characteristic of Kansas State students!  I find it ludicrous that a student in college would not know their states.  And, who said I was a West Virginian?

  • Curtis Madden

These are kids.  You people take this stuff way too seriously!

    • Bsut96

Concerns me when college students can’t name the 50 states.

  • kstater

K-state players are closed to the media except for Klein. Highly doubt this is true

  • Govols74n

K state wil destroy WV. I’ll be watching from Manhattan, rooting for the cats! I predict a good game, 38-21 k state.

    • Coreylester17

I agree with you that it will be a good game

    • Coreylester17

I agree with you that it will be a good game, but I seriously believe that WVU will win. (1.) It’s a night game(2.) It’s in one of the toughest places to play in the Northeast(3.)We are somewhat underdogs(which is when WVU usually wins)
(4.) WVU fans and players are already riled up from K State fans
