Kansas State’s Nigel Malone was en route to a pick six that would’ve given the Wildcats the lead against Texas on Saturday. Until he fell victim to an all-too-common brain fart.
Malone stepped in front of and picked off a pass by Longhorns QB Case McCoy early in the first quarter and raced to the end zone – only to discard the ball in celebration before crossing the goal line a la DeSean Jackson against the Cowboys in 2008.
Replay confirmed Malone’s faux pas after officials had initially signaled touchdown. Since no player from Texas covered the football after Malone discarded it, K-State was given the ball on the Longhorns’ half-yard line and scored on its next play.
