K Mo Isom Fails to Make LSU FB Team

It appears the feel-good story of the college football offseason has finally come to an end as former LSU women’s soccer star Mo Isom has failed to make the Tigers’ football team for the second time.

Isom initially tried to make the squad in March as a kickoff specialist but didn’t make the cut. The former LSU goalie and homecoming queen was trying to become the first female SEC football player ever and had become a national celebrity with an appearance on the talk show “Ellen” and profiles chronicling all the adversity she has overcome in her life.

Isom tried out again this week but apparently got bad news a second time from head coach Les Miles, as she tweeted this out on Friday afternoon:

On the bright side, Kansas and Texas A&M are still looking for students who can fill their rosters as kickers, so there’s still hope for Isom if she is willing to change schools to chase her dream.

I guess she “didn’t have the chest.”

WHAT??? Those are Les Miles’ words not mine – LMAO!

  • John

Kickoff specialist? Doesn’t the GUY who kicks field goals and extra points do that? If not, why not?

  • Gatorzone

    Come on Les……..

  • Judyhumphrey

This is a disappointment for sure, I would’ve like to see her play it would mean a few things would be looked differently.1)she would be taken seriously, not to be  gawked at running  around in lingerie.2)the respect for women would be up a notch, espeacially in tha sport of football maybe paved the way for other potentials even.

    • callingouthypocrites

Do you understand NCAA sanctions and rules? Title IX? Do you know that there are sports not offered to men because of Title IX? When a university has to choose to keep there football program and drop other male sports to keep in compliance with Title IX, it is hardly discrimination against women. How about a guy trying out for womens soccer? You cool with that?

      • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_FTUGZWEAZAKSUFA25G6FH4Q4DA Todd

No, and here is why. Because other guys would too, and soon, no women would be left on the team. Guys are just, on average ~10% better at the running, jumping, kicking and throwing that sports entail. That maybe doesn’t sound like much, but physically it is a giant chasm. ESPN (i think) had an article where some guy went through any event that was not judged and compared the men’s times/distance/height to the women’s, and across the board the difference between the male and female competitors was 10%.

    • reallyreally

Clearly Judyhumphrey has is living a sheltered out of touch with reality life. So what you are telling me is all the women that compete in their own sports are not taken seriously and are just there to be gawked at. I’m sure there are hundreds if not thousands of women that just competed in the Olympics that would love to hear that.

Number 2 respect for women is up a notch, but never ever expect to see women play football at a high level. Hey Judy do you ever play tackle football in you regular life. I do a few times a year and I question why on Monday morning when I go back to work and I’m walking with a limp. I can only Imagine how much worse it would be if I was playing against a 300 lbs pro.

I have enough respect for women not to subject them to that kind of abuse. And trust me that is what they will get.

Go back to your Charlie’s Angels marathon and let the experts make the decisions on what is best for LSU football.

  • Gatorgirl597

    Typical male shovinist pig comment!

    • guest

Back to school, little reptile.  That word is spelled ‘chauvinist.’  Or was your English teacher male and therefore not worthy of your attention?

      • Gatorgirl597

You know it well I see lmao!!

Typical Feminazi hypocrite. You are the kind who demanded the Citadel integrate yet go into bitch mode when a boy wants to play field hockey or try out for gymnastics. You Feminazis are the ones who sue to force girls on the wrestling and football teams while balking when a girls’ school starts allowing men.

  • Michael Eliasson

Les is a d*** anyway….He would have found any excuse not to have her on the team….

  • Finpat1959

You are a maie chauvanist pig – woman hater.  Feel sorry for any women in your life as they are probably confined to the kitchen where they have to wait on you nand and foot.  I bet you never made any team in your life – I am sure you didn’t attend college.

    • Tr7jimmy

Shut up and make me a sandwich!

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_63KPWHYAEOQP624IQ4BDMIWQQY Rocky

You feminazis are hypocrites. You’re the ones who complain if a boy plans to try out for gymnastics or field hockey. You’re the hypocrites who demanded the Citadel add women, but balk when all-girls schools add men.

    • Fasfam

You probably can’t pro create unless you have a bag over your head…..just sayin’

  • Guest

Face it. Its for her well being. If women can play on male sports teams why don’t we let guys play with them? Wheres the outcry over that? Whats she going to do on kickoff when it comes time run down the field and make a tackle? Will she not be blocked because shes a girl? Don’t tell me you guys wouldn’t cry if she got absolutely wrecked on a hit. She may be an awesome athlete but SEC football isn’t for her. She probably is okay with getting hit but lets be honest its unfair to the other athletes who will pay the toll for it by the media and the emotional aspects involved.

    • Casey_cernglia

I am not really for or against this but if she was just to kick field goals and extra points plus do it well then i dont see a problem. You can put the punter out there for kickoffs if your worried about tackles because we do have a male punter.

      • Ronin7734

Clearly you know nothing about football…

      • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_FTUGZWEAZAKSUFA25G6FH4Q4DA Todd

Dude, the 1st botched snap she would get annhilated by the defense and the very people pushing this idea as good would be the first to cry foul. You people are what we call the “have it both ways” people.

I would watch, but just for the trainwreck.

This is next to boxing or some other type fighting, the most violent sport on the planet. I am all for women playing violent sports against other women, but there is no room in football, with all the concussions and other problems, for women to start getting hurt.

        • James

That is why football has pads. I have seen plenty of women play hockey against men and they can surely kick ass and take some hard hits.

  • Benny Chung

    ^a**hole w/ no class

  • Stevedr83

It’s nice to know the state of Louisiana allows it’s leaders to discriminate against women. Grow up LSU

    • Matthew Torres

What if she didn’t make the team because kicking a football is a tad bit different than kicking a soccer ball? Could it be that she wasn’t good enough? The SEC is the toughest conference in the NCAA and many games come down to the wire. A team with the winning reputation that LSU has will want to have the best candidate on the field. While I think it would be cool to have a female player especially on such a high profile team, think about this: 1) The media storm would be a distraction: Les Miles is a no-nonsense dude, he cut his most talented CB because of not following rules. 2) If she wasn’t good enough, kuddos to Les Miles for focusing on winning instead of trying to garner attention by having a gimmick on the field. 3) Player safety: Even if she made the team, her well-being would be in serious danger, how many times have we seen kickers get blindsided by a blocker while trying to pursue the returner? Head injuries are a serious concern for the sport. While I admire her courage, she could get seriously hurt out there.
Its easy to accuse Miles of being sexist people need to be objective.

      • reallyreally

Matthew Torres. Regardless of whatever your opinion is on this subject just look up Matthew Torres for the truth.

      • Dogar T. Oppenheimer

Anyone remember Tony Meola? Soccer goalie turned wannabe NFL place kicker. It doesn’t translate well, soccer to football. On another note, in high school my team played another team that had a girl that was an offensive lineman/woman. She got tossed on every play and she was a freakish ogre-sized female. It didn’t matter. Somewhere in human history the man and woman had to decide who was going to hunt for food and fight off intruders and who were going to stay behind and tend to children and the household. Everyone knows how that played out. Women are great. I have three daughters and a great wife. I would never let them try out for male dominated/created sports just as I would never let my sons’ try out for a girls’ league. The whole premise that it is unfair to women that they can’t physically compete at the same level is INSANITY!!! Chalk it up to evolution or blame GOD. Top male athletes in the world versus top female athletes in the world at any sport but child-bearing and quilting…..you know how that turns out.

    • Redwinghess

I am all for a woman earning a spot on the team. Key word being earning. Plenty of guys try out and did not make it I am sure.

      • callingouthypocrites

So you’re cool with men trying out for women sanctioned sports? Like women’s soccer or volleyball? Because most universities don’t have male volleyball teams anymore.

    • callingouthypocrites

Absolutely the most moronic statement ever. Football is NCAA sanctioned and ruled. Meaning Title IX. Is it discrimination when a guy wants to play volleyball for his university, but only womens volleyball is available? Does he get to try out for their team?

      • The Stick

Also like the people saying look how the did at the olympics.  They were not playing against 250-300 LB men.

      • Darkassassinsof2

The thing is, all these sports your mentioning are co-ed, There are male and female volley ball teams, baseball vs softball and soccer, basketball and so forth, you just have to find the school with these teams. Now with that said she can’t find any school or league with a female football team and as a kicker, well look at NFL, 90% of kickers tackle like girls.

    • Tyt98

yeah, and the first time she gets tackled she is either gonna be paralyzed or get seriously injured

    • Kennedy 63

You know its always cool when someone trys their best and goes above and beyond and thats a good thing. But when that person fails male or female black or white …The media and people in general cheaping it by trying to make out like its gender or race related ..its not When you learn to lose or fail as well as win do it with diginty and dont cry or bitch about it This is not t-ball and not everyone gets a trophy …This whole world needs to grow up and man up ..

  • Old School

It’s always so one sided when it comes to the ridiculousness of females.. they cry and moan to try to play on men’s teams, or if they’re reporters and are denied going into a male locker room after a game.  I remember covering a Tampa Bay football game… the women reporters were allowed into the Buc’s locker room (useless mistake) yet we were denied access to the dancing girls locker room.  I wish women would just keep their place.  We don’t need some woman trying to play on an SEC football team for MEN or any other team like that.  This poor girl would get herself killed.  If she wants to play, then let’s see her play linebacker or defensive end.  That would be something.  She’s some poor reject trying to gain attention for herself, and it seems to be working.  Women always want equal rights until it’s time to pay the dinner check.

    • Colosnowfun

You “Wish woman would just keep there place”. Sorry , barefoot and pregnant is a thing of the past. What a STUPID thing to say in 2012 !!  Look how many medals the US woman took home at the Olympics. You are just jealous that a woman could probably kick your ignorant ass !!  You are a male chauvinist pig !  You probably don’t have a girlfriend or wife due to your pig snout, and curly tail between your legs. If you do I pity them.

      • GDImatt

but it was against other females

      • reallyreally

Look at how many medals the US woman took home while competing against other women. If they had to complete against men my guess is there would be none. What a STUPID thing to say in 2012!! The athletes are getting bigger faster and stronger and now is the time to put a women in football? Head scratcher.

So she kicks off the ball and a 5’10″ 230 lbs return specialist that can run a 40 in 4 seconds comes running down the field a high speed and she has to try and tackle him. That is if the blockers are nice and don’t hit her on the way by.

I doubt I could do it even one time out of a hundred tries without getting banged up pretty good, but one thing is for sure I not going to let my girlfriend try.

You people need to stop watching all these pretend movies that are trying to empower women and get with reality. In real life Angelina Jolie would get her ass handed to her by 90% + regular ordinary men, but in Salt she’s unstoppable by trained men. One is real, one is not.

The guys that made the decision not to have a girl play football at a high level are in touch with reality, all the morons that say let her play are out to lunch.

        • thatguy

I have seen kickers and quarterbacks that CAN”T make or are afraid to make a tackle so try again reallyreally.

          • http://twitter.com/iGanja David Moore

It’s not a matter of ability to kick a ball, or even inability to tackle a real football player running at full speed in your direction. As big as he is, you would think Sebastian Janikowski would be a decent tackler on kick-offs, but he is the biggest wuss of all – just as you say. So, it’s pretty obvious that is not what coaches are looking at when evaluating kickers. @reallyreally makes very good points. FACT: women are NOT as strong as men – pound for pound; not as fast, not as durable; in short, not as athletic. This will not change without further evolution of our species, and some may argue that has slowed to a stand-still because of this “save every defect, let everyone play” mentality.
As 2Cents says below, if this girl could add value to the team and be productive, any coach worth their salt – no pun intended – would take a look at her and give her a chance. Are there coaches that – in the end – would cut her for being a girl? Yes, I think there are a good many who would simply say, I don’t want a girl being carted off my field with a broken (anything) under my watch. And you know what? That is also fine by me. In the end, a head coach is the captain of the ship, and would live and possibly be tormented by that decision. And it’s so easy for “you” to tell “them” they must. Just playing with other people’s money again, eh’ libs?
It’s really easy for us to say “give her a chance” – it’s a nice feel good story, we love those – but the REALITY is, as so many others have rightly pointed out, girls are not ready to play the most violent sport on the planet, and I doubt they ever will be.

      • Passon

I don’t think it was meant as a “barefoot and pregnant” remark.  It’s also a safety issue.  Sure, tons of women won medals in the Olympics…vs. other women.  If it was a coed tournament the outcome would be really, really different.  I don’t want guys fighting to play on womens teams and I’m not sure I understand the concept of women fighting to play on mens teams just to try and prove a point.  It’s not sexist, it’s just reality.

      • 2cents

Former male D1 kicker here. If she could have added value in any way to that team, then Miles would of kept her. He’s in the business of putting then best players he can find (within NCAA regs) on the field. To think that the time is now for women to play in mens sports is ignorant.

Yes the women tore it up at the Olympics, but like reallreally said, it was against other women. There is no comparison at all to men vs. women there. Most countries don’t have organized sports for a lot of the women’s Olympic sports.

Background -  In high school, there was a girl who was on the USWNT soccer team and she could not play with our JV boy’s team. She was timid, weaker and too mentally and physically slow to play with our JV team. When I mean mentally, I mean she didn’t understand the sport enough to keep up with the speed of play.

Just my 2 cents. I get pretty irritated when people start talking about women being on even playing fields with men when it comes to physical activity. We’re just built differently. Inside and out.

      • Wlsmith1126

Id have to agree with you, old school, your a moron. and this is coming from a man.

      • Michael4yah

It aint about that, its about all the lies and superfluous Bull Crap that we have served to us everyday by the bull crap artists and other useful idiot feminists.
All those women who won medals were competing against women. How many would they have won competing against men? Nuff Said.

      • Come On Man…

What do you think that girl weighs?  105? Maybe as much as 120?  How much do you think the average guy on the opposing team weighs?  50% more than her?  Some more than twice her size?  Some maybe even more than that?  Ok, now go take a physics class… then go tell that poor girl this is a good idea.  While you’re at it, tell her to go get in a Ford Pinto and play a good game of chicken with an
F-350.  At least in that game you try to swerve at the last second.

        • Guest

           She weighs 195.  Try again.

      • Fasfam

So in that case……men should play womens sports……so then they can shower together..that would be great for both genders…..maybe make extra money filming the shower room

      • James

The ignorance of men gets more and more astounding.

    • Travis

You’re a flipping moron!!! We celebrate people who can reach for a higher goal and overcome obsticles.  It’s a challange for a woman to play on a men’s team, but if they can do it then they deserve it.  It is not a challange for a man to play on a woman’s team, although I expect that you would get your whimply a$$ kicked either way.  If Mo Isom could make the team then she deserves it.  I have not heard her or anyone else whine about unfairness; she has more dignity than that.  You are the only crybaby around, maybe because you feel your manhood would be challanged??? Go crawl back in your little boy cave and play with your inch worm.  And all you other crybaby boys out there.  If a woman can make a men’s team LIGITIMATELY, and do it with the class that Mo did, then good luck to them.  Ladies, not all men share this pig-headed attitude; some of us respect you for who you are as well as for who you dream to be.  So go for it and be your best!!!

      • Gatekeepr35

“It is not a challange for a man to play on a woman’s team”
        Why not?

        • reallyreally

Travis here is all equal rights just to try and get in women’s panties. But Gatekeeper35 points out his true colors. Personally I think it is bad for women’s sports when the top stars from their league leave only to sit on the bench of a second tear mens team.

Now I understand there isn’t allot of real football leagues for women, but kicker isn’t really a football position.

She’s just doing all this for kicks.

          • thatguy

I am thinking there are some kickers out there that are making a ‘reallyreally’ lot more money then you are. Tell them its not a real position.

      • Fasfam

Travis…….you didn’t play football in school did you………freak

    • Tefitz61

Cheerleader locker room, we need access Title 9 and all. Free press anyone?

  • Pilot2411

they should let her play. I bet women would change their tune after she got paralyzed. you dont think someone would go and intentionally smash her? I would. just to show her what football is about. You have to believe that some monster would just run right into her and knock her s*** in the dirt. What would happen? A penalty for unnecessary roughness and a lifetime on youtube. So when is tryouts for the female volleyball team??

    • Redwinghess

Yea cause kickers NEVER get hit normally. And I am sure some guy would love feeling so big and bad for taking a KICKER out especially one that is female. And if the hit was not needed I am sure non of her teammates would go and take the dudes head off.

      • reallyreally

See what you just pointed out is we would have a riot on our hands. Yeah because that is what football needs is a few riots because women have to be on the teams.

And to pilot2411 do you really think there is a chance that men could be on a women volleyball team?….Because if so sign me up. Sweaty women in short shorts. I don’t even care if I ride the bench I think it is my right to be aloud to compete in that.

Buy the way this argument is no more ridiculous.

        • Guest

It’s spelled “allowed” but we all get your point.

  • callingouthypocrites

The responses on here are so ridiculous. It’s NCAA and Title IX. She had no business trying out in the first place. Most universities make money off of their football programs, so to stay in compliance with Title IX they drop a lot of male sports. So, then the question becomes are you people cool with a guy trying out and playing for a women’s sanctioned team when it’s not offered to men? Soccer? Volleyball? This is NCAA. Not you damn rec league.

    • callingouthypocrites

By the way, I’m sure she’s a great athlete and could kick my ass. But I didn’t invent Title IX.

      • callingouthypocrites

If a female can play on a male’s team, then doesn’t that make Title IX obsolete?

    • Joeblow

The Key is…..She is not the best kicker, not better than a man and is not on the TEAM! now go boohoo on twitter.

outrageous to even consider a woman for collegiate mens football team. Just a PR con inbad taste.

  • Sarah

most women know where there place IS and where it IS NOT.

  • Goonie888

Having a female on the field puts her opponents in an awkward position, especially if the play is botched and suddenly she’s trying to run with the football or pass. Do they blast her like they’d blast a man? If they go soft on her (like most boys have been taught since they were little), then it gives her team an advantage.

  • Meatball

She would be hurt in the first time she kicked because all they get is a penalty for running into the kicker. That would make her realize this sport is for men and not for women unless like ( 408 ) mentioned to play in a women’s league in underwear.

  • Meatball

I see many women carry the water pail, so she can be part of the team by giving water to the Male Players.

  • Guest

I would have like to see her make the team and then get her ass reamed off a botched field goal!!

  • Timotthy01

My question is “How can she be covered by the school’s insurance?”  I only played for two years, in Division 1, because I couldn’t take the hits any longer. Imagine running full speed into a brick wall over and over.  I am all for women’s rights, but I am against women in men’s football.

    • Hollie71

Timothy, it could not have been said better. Though I am a woman, I now FULLY beleive woman can DO anything, but some things we are not meant to do. If these ignorant angry women thought about that for a moment they might be slightly happy!!!

  • tubaman

    good!!!!!

  • Abraxus

Let me just say this. Soccer is not the sport to be crossing over from into football. If she was a rugby player, or a lacrosse player that might be something. They are full contact sports, soccer is not, especially if she was a goalie. Go try out for the rugby team, try out for lacrosse, you make it there. just maybe you might have the ability to take a hit in football. MAYBE.

  • jim parker

ok, lets say she makes a team. she gets the nod to play. she goes on the field, kicks the ball,  some damn how she recovers a fumble. she takes off with the ball, all of a sudden she is a tackelable player. hmmm to grab and tackle and worry bout a lawsuit later or blowoff the tackle and get accused of pussy footing or throwing the game. decisions, decisions.  so she takes a hit, gets sandwiched between two opposing players and screws up her reproductive system. now what?

    • Fasfam

      The dumb ass won’t reproduce!!!

  • YaakovZelig

Old School is right. Furthermore, the downfall of American genius is because white women do not reproduce in sufficient numbers to  maintain the brainpower in America. Consequently, it isimperative to import Indians and Chinese or America would cease to exist as a world power. The lack of intelligence is why we have a President who was elected as a social experiment.

  • sailorman

Let her on the team! Then I’ll have a reason to watch the locker room report so I can see her prancing around with just a towel covering her lower half. Oh, wait a minute….that won’t happen. Even though she is on the men’s team, she will get her own locker room and cameras will be prohibited. Yeah…….that’s fair!

Just a STUNT so the PC crowd can feel all good about themselves!

  • TEXIZZ

Ms. Isom was given a tryout and fell short.  Many athletes fail every year and life goes on.  Eventually, a female will make the team and it will be historic and fun to watch.

  • Superdave14

Who was the #1 golfer in the world again about 7 years ago, awarded a spot to play golf with pro mens tournament….she finished in 100+ place.
Women can not play with men at high levels, maybe she could try out for the middle school team where she is similar in size to those football players that at the age of 13 have similar muscle mass.

Ignorant women who want it both ways and always cry foul because God made them physically inferior to men. boohoo….maybe barefoot and pregnant isn’t such a bad thing, at least we know you can do that well…well most of you

I think there will be a female coach in football, before there will be a female player in football. Actually, I am really surprise that their is not a female position coach on any team. It is the speed not really the size of the person. There are more than a few female WNBA players that are tallerr, and some even weigh more than this year’s WR drive class. I doubt they can match the speed. Yes, so it is possible for a female to play WR in college, but probably not make it to the pros.
