When Arkansas LB Tenarius Wright took the podium at SEC Media Days on Wednesday, reporters were intent on asking specifics about the Razorbacks’ upcoming season – only to completely lose their train of thought when Wright shared John L. Smith’s team motto: “Get your piss hot!”
Um … excuse us?
Wright says the colloquialism pumps the players up and an SB Nation story on Arkansas players’ reaction to Smith’s hiring as the team’s interim head coach in April indicates that they’ve known about the saying for some time; he had served as the Razorbacks’ special teams coach since 2009.
Logic dictates that Smith is imploring his players to get angry although there certainly appear to be more sanitary ways to say this. Weirdness aside, the motto has already given us Twitter gems like this play on words from Friends of the Program: “Woo Piss Sooie!”
Leave it to Smith to be the guy with the most unconventional team motto. After all, he’s displayed unconventional behavior in the past…
