John L. Smith Calls Arkansas ‘Alabama’

John L. Smith might not make it through the duration of his 10-month contract with Arkansas following the Hogs’ 1–3 start. But until he’s relieved of his coaching duties, he will continue to fill reporters’ notebooks.

During a speech Monday at the Touchdown Club of Little Rock, Smith implored the fans, “Don’t give up on those players. It’s our program, it’s a state of Alabama program.”

The hushed silence in the room seemed to indicate the same overriding thought: John L. has actually lost his mind.

The Crystal Ball Run’s Matt Yoder says the fact that both teams start with the letter “A,” are located in the south and have a shade of red as its dominant color could have caused Smith’s confusion. Or maybe it was just wishful thinking on Smith’s part, wishing he were in Tuscaloosa instead of Fayetteville.
