Jim Tressel Seen on TV in Colts Debut

If you are a glutton for punishment and watched the entire 62-7 blowout on “Sunday Night Football,” you got a special treat in the fourth quarter.

That’s when an NBC camera panned to the press box to catch former Ohio State coach Jim Tressel fresh off his NFL suspension and serving in his new role as a replay consultant for the Indianapolis Colts. Tressel was seen sans sweater vest and instead sporting a Colts golf shirt.

It was quite the beginning. Working with replay last night was brutal for any Colts coach as the Saints tied the NFL record for biggest margin of victory since the NFL-AFL merger. While many will probably say Tressel looks miserable, this is pretty much the face he showed win or lose on the sidelines in Columbus.

The way things are going for the 0-7 Colts this season, we wouldn’t be surprised if fans started calling for Tressel to replace Jim Caldwell for 2012.

Actually, most Colts fans think that the hiring of Tressel is reason enough to fire Caldwell. We might be able to overlook the losses. Maybe even by 55. But not Tressel. That is the final straw.

“Most Colts fans” You must mean the one that lives at your house.

Do you really think Caldwell hired Tressel? No way. Hiring moves and player transactions are done by Irsay and the Polians. Caldwell’s job is preparation through the week and implement it during the game.

Up until Sunday’s horrid loss at New Orleans (where I didn’t think we stood a chance anyway), I had defended Caldwell. However, it became clear as the game wore on that Indy was not prepared and quit half way through the 3rd quarter. I had defended him because in 3 seasons, the Colts have been Super Bowl runner-up, division champs with a ton of injuries (hell of a coaching job IMO), and now this year without the franchise. That being said, without Peyton – the team has quit on Caldwell and has no competitve fire. Gotta make that change.

I also was growing weery of the Suck for Luck talk and while I do not want the Colts to lose out (0-16), I do think drafting Luck may not be such a bad idea. However, that crap that Dungy said is exactly that, CRAP! The Colts do not need to nor should they trade Peyton simply because they have Luck. I say draft Luck and treat him the way the Packers did with Rodgers. Have him prepping for 3 years for when Peyton is no longer here.

Agreeable, Caldwell needs to go. Though not a Colts fan, it’s clear that the man is incapable of doing the job. The success the Colts have had since Dungy’s departure (and possible during much of his tenure) stem from the abilities of that man on the sidelines – Number 18. I had the opportunity to watch the Cincy/Indy game, and the skill of Manning shows how much that organization relied on him.

During the final 5 minutes or so, the Colts were driving to tie or possibly lead. Manning was calling the plays from the sidelines, reading the defense, and have the OC call in the audible. The success the Colts were having with their hurry-up offense in the last minutes was not due to Painters ability to read and adjust, but to Manning’s. Kudos to Peyton for having the wits to make these calls. Caldwell blew him off and was not wanting to call in the audibles.

As a coach, Caldwell has been successful in the past because he 1) inherited a championship team and 2) had a playmaker at QB. As the team ages and he looses his playmakers, he will continue to loose as he does not have the recruiting prowess that Dungy had. It’s a similar situation as with the Steelers – as they are aging, they no longer have a coach giving his two-cents on recruiting the proper squad.

Best of luck to the Colts this year. I do believe it will be in their best interest to draft Luck and put him on the 2-3 year mentor program. Stay strong Colts Nation. You might have a rough year or two, but it won’t be as bad as what we here in Bengals Nation are suffering with!

Let’s see if I have this right, here… The Colts want to hire someone to over-see instant replays to get an honest take on what’s going on, so they hire a proven liar… Wait, did I say honest…??? Uh, nevermind…

You guys wait, Tressel will be your next coach! That little slimy expletive can worm his way in about anywhere! Be prepared for mediocraty at it’s best!
