Miami (FL) coach Jim Larranaga is 63 years old, yet he moves like someone at least half his age.
Following the Hurricanes’ 63–59 win over Illinois on Sunday, which sent them to their first Sweet Sixteen since 2000, Larranaga gathered his players for a postgame chat. “I asked you guys to be fighters,” he said. “And you know what I saw out there? Muhammad Ali!”
Larranaga then did a dead-on impression of the iconic boxer’s foot shuffle and shadow punches — much to the howling delight of Miami’s players, who needed a good 30 seconds to settle down and allow Larranaga to resume talking. The Hurricanes’ unexpected success this season just made a lot more sense.
