One decade ago this fall, quarterback Jason Gesser was leading Washington State to the Rose Bowl and putting the finishing touches on a career that saw him become the only three-time captain in Cougars football history and win more games (24) than any Wazzu quarterback before or since.
Now, at the tender age of 33, Gesser is an FBS head coach.
After Idaho fired head coach Robb Akey on Sunday, the Vandals’ administration named Gesser as his interim replacement. Gesser is in his second season in Moscow and was in his first as Idaho’s offensive coordinator.
Gesser has been on the coaching track for the last four years. After his journeyman pro playing career ended in 2008, Gesser served as head coach at Eastside Catholic School in Sammamish, WA, for the 2009 and 2010 seasons. He spent the 2011 season as Idaho’s running backs coach. Jason Gesser profile
