JaMarcus Russell Attempting Comeback

In JaMarcus Russell’s mind, there’s still time to salvage his reputation.

Widely considered one of the biggest NFL draft busts in history – if not the biggest ever – the former LSU star quarterback is attempting a comeback more than three years after taking his last snap with the Oakland Raiders, who selected him with the No. 1 overall pick in 2007.

Step One for Russell will be to round himself into not just into playing shape but good shape in general. At the moment, he reportedly weighs 308 pounds.

It won’t be for lack of support if Russell fails to land on an NFL roster for next season. In addition to training with Brian Martin of TEST Football Academy, the 27-year-old will be working with former NFL QB Jeff Garcia (quarterback technique training) and former Olympic sprinter Ato Boldon (speed training and analysis), among other experts. This might sound crazy, but I think with the NFL’s new style of QB, Russell may find a niche if he’s able to hook up with a pistol type offense like RG III runs and saying he’s able to run around the field effectively. I’m sure there is one NFL team out there willing to give him a try-out. He did seem however not to be interested in playing the game passionately. So…I guess there may be too many “what if’s” with this guy.

To come back, you have to be at the top in the first place.
