[Update: The Big Lead insists Nix was responsible for the groin shot on Zeller. This footage has now been broken down more than the Zapruder film.]
While No. 1 Indiana and No. 4 Michigan State were staging a dramatic battle for the Big Ten lead on Tuesday night in East Lansing, big men Cody Zeller and Derrick Nix may have be involved in a separate competition for Best Actor in a Leading Role.
Nix started things off when he was defending Zeller as the Hoosiers star received a pass to the post. When Zeller turned toward the basket, Nix grabbed his groin and looked longingly at the official to call an offensive foul. No call was made, and Zeller’s basket stood.
That was nothing, however, compared to what Zeller might have tried to pull. With about two minutes remaining, Zeller appears to have grabbed Nix’s arm, pulled it toward him and reacted as if he had received a shot to the groin. ESPN’s Dick Vitale lit into Nix, but officials correctly determined not to call a foul.
Anything goes in the race for prime position leading up to March Madness. Including theatrics like these.
