Huskers Get New Alternate Home Unis

Nebraska fans used to seeing their beloved Cornhuskers in the traditional red and white helmets and jerseys will be in for quite a shock during one of the team’s home games in 2012.

A YouTube video released Thursday from the Adidas Football channel shows off a Nebraska “Techfit” ensemble not too dissimilar from the Nike Pro Combat alternate unis that Stanford wore during its 2011 contest against Notre Dame (with a jersey design like what Michigan wore vs. Notre Dame). The Huskers will wear the uniforms for the Sept. 29 showdown with Wisconsin to be played under the lights at Memorial Stadium.

The helmet design is the same, but with an impressive-looking black background in place of white. In terms of a dramatic departure from the old, that’s nothing compared to the jerseys: A giant black “N” in the chest area with the numbers tucked away by the left shoulder of a cherry red uni.

One zany touch the Huskers could have done without: The black-and-red checkerboard socks. They look like something a day-trader would wear.

Big Ten rival Penn State should take note that changing up uniforms old as time is possible. Grade: B+

I guess the letter in front stands for “Nowledge”

    • HuskerPower

That’s what people say when they have none.

      How original!  Move along now.

      5 “N”ational championships actually

You must be from Colorado!!!!!  It is a funny take on Nebraska’s new uniform.

Actually, it’s a copy of what Michigan wore last year.

  • HuskerAlum

    Turrible.

The final step in Nebraska being a sell-out.  I guess when you can’t win you have to do something to manufacture excitement.

  • Go Big Red!

Not a fan. They look cheap and there is no history to be proud of in them. And Black is a color our defense uses, its not a school color. I think I would like it more if “Huskers” was across the N like most Nebraska logos.

       Very witty reply!!!!!!!

Needs a belt to separate top from bottom so it doesn’t look like a night gown!

SO much better than the bland cr ap they’ve been wearing for the last hundred years. I vote for this as a permanent change! – longtime Husker fan

  • Bugeater37

Terrible. Completely lost on me. I liked the Children of the Corn designs. You know the ones with the actual corn on them. People act like they are ashamed of corn and to be called as such. Be the Bugeaters or go with the corn. Or change nothing because the big black “N” looks like the worst!

Are the Village People auditioning for a football player?

  • Bacardilvr2003

I hate it. Why mess with such a classic uni?

Yeah.. these are a major disappointment..

  • Allan_johnson88

I saw one that was the jersey and pants all black with black helmet with red N

  • Kent Brewster

Be nice if they would spell Nebraska right.

  • Mcdonald Lucas

  • Harmanearl

You said that the helmet has a red stripe instead of a white one. The Nebraska helmet that features the black back round is exactly the same as the white one except for the backround change. Both helmets have a red stripe, the white one does also and does not have as white stripe per your article.

Hey Milon, only people that come from outside of Nebraska think that it stands for Nowledge instead of knowledge. We get so tired having to explain that to people from other states when they come into Lincoln. You really should have paid attention in spelling class, I learned that in grade school in Lincoln, Nebraska. It’s a very old joke and the only people that keep bringing it up are non Nebraskan’s.
