Hurricanes Mock Duke With Floor Slap

During the second half of its 90–63 thumping of top-ranked Duke on Wednesday, Miami (FL) added some insult to injury.

As Duke advanced the ball up the court trailing 72–44, all five Hurricanes players slapped the floor, an obvious jab at the widely hated psych-up tactic the Blue Devils’ players have used for years on defensive possessions. As it turns out, it was a famous Miami alum sitting in the stands who convinced the Hurricanes to do it.

“I just heard somebody scream my name,” said Hurricanes guard Shane Larkin. “It was Warren Sapp. He was like like ‘slap the floor on D.’ ”

This probably caused great consternation for one of the originators of the Duke Floor Slap, Steve Wojciechowski. He was not only mocked, he was also on hand to see it a couple feet away as a Blue Devils assistant coach.

Why is it mocking? Those guys were playing excellent defense all night why wouldn’t it be considered an exclamation point on the night regarding their defensive performance?

Duke does it all the time they don’t like it when they are on the other side of it I love it

Wojciechowski started it? I thought I saw Hurley do it.
