At 6-foot-4 and 232 pounds, Virginia Tech WR Marcus Davis certainly has the physical makeup to be a potent downfield blocker in addition to being a big target for QB Logan Thomas. In regard to the former, he needs to stop looking so afraid all the time.
On several plays during the Hokies’ 28–22 loss to Florida State last Thursday, Davis seemed embarrassingly uninterested in blocking whenever the play went to his part of the field. It’s almost akin to someone who’s afraid of hurting a much smaller person in a physical activity.
While Davis showed off his downfield ability in the game with a 54-yard reception, that doesn’t equate to a “get out of blocking free” card. College football fans seem to agree, as the video has gone viral with over 46,000 views on YouTube as of 3:00 PM on Tuesday.
Davis seemed unconcerned when responding to the video in The Washington Post: “Obviously somebody was bored and they felt they could put up a video, but little did they know, they don’t know the half of it. If that’s what they want to do with their free time, then I applaud them. Go ahead and do what you want. But at the end of the day, that’s not gonna define me. That’s not who I am.”
