If several prominent Arkansas boosters have their way, the next coach of the Razorbacks will be former Miami (FL) and North Carolina head man Butch Davis.
However, if Davis were to take over in Fayetteville, he’d first have to resolve the ignominious circumstances under which he was fired from the Tar Heels. He’s currently embroiled in a legal battle with media outlets seeking access to his personal cell phone records as they cover the ongoing scandal involving the UNC athletics department.
While Davis has proven himself as a top-notch recruiter with both the Hurricanes and Tar Heels, it was under his watch that UNC players received improper agent benefits and tutoring.
But, according to 247sports.com, that hasn’t stopped boosters who want to see Arkansas back among the nation’s elite after a 1-2 start to the 2012 season.
Reports the site: “According to sources, Davis, the former Arkansas Razorbacks defensive end from Springdale, has had plenty of support from prominent boosters and trustees as UA Athletic Director Jeff Long surveys the land for a new head coach.”
Houston Nutt, Bobby Petrino, John L. Smith and now (maybe) Davis. What is it with the Razorbacks and their penchant for football coaches who court drama?
