Before becoming major college football coaches at precocious ages, Clemson’s Dabo Swinney and USC’s Lane Kiffin were once awkward teenagers just like the rest of us.
In a USA Today High School Sports feature, Swinney and Kiffin were just two coaches whose high school years were documented. But their two photos are easily our favorites.
First, there’s Swinney. With his atrociously patterned pink sweater and mullet haircut, we can’t tell if he’s posing for a photo for the Pelham (AL) High School yearbook or a faux John Hughes movie poster. As for Kiffin, anyone who views the Trojans’ coach as college football’s ultimate brat will be left in stitches at the sight of him as a Bloomington (MN) Jefferson H.S. student dressed in the vein of early 1990s Vanilla Ice.
If you can’t get enough of this, the rest of USA Today’s gallery also includes LSU’s Les Miles in a wrestling singlet, Louisville’s Charlie Strong in short shorts and Michigan’s Brady Hoke with long flowing hair, among others.
