It’s official. West Virginia quarterback Geno Smith now feels like he belongs in the Big 12 conference. What makes it official? The braggadocio he displayed to Texas fans during the Moutaineers’ 48–45 victory in Austin on Saturday.
While on the phone with his offensive coordinator following West Virginia’s final touchdown, Smith flashed a “Horns Down” sign to the crowd at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium. It’s unclear whether it was in response to the crowd chanting “Geno sucks” or vice versa.
A little unsportsmanlike? Maybe. But one could argue that after torching the Longhorns for four touchdown passes, likely while enduring a variety of insulting chants, that Geno deserved to be a little cocky. You would be too if you’re TD-to-INT ratio was 24-to-zero.
