Former Florida QB Doug Johnson is one of three people accused of felony battery in conjunction with an attack on Joe Cappelletti (below), 28, following the LSU-Florida game in Gainesville on Oct. 6.
According to Cappelletti, Johnson and two men he was with punched and kicked him repeatedly in the face following a verbal confrontation, resulting in a broken nose and numerous facial fractures. According to Alachua County court records, Johnson has plead not guilty to the charges.
The accusations against the 35-year-old Johnson are in sharp contrast to his post-football playing reputation. A father of two, Johnson is the founder of the Reeling for Kids charity fishing tournament in addition his work as an agent at Perry McGriff, Johnson & Fletcher Insurance Agency in Gainesville.
Johnson was a member of Florida’s 1996 national championship team and is sixth in school history in touchdown passes (62). Doug Johnson profile
