We’ve seen a lot of alternate college football helmets this offseason – some good and some, well, not-so-good.
And with just one day until the college football season starts, it appears Georgia Tech is about to get one of the best alternate lids we’ve seen in 2012.
Georgia Tech back-up QB Synjyn Days tweeted out a picture on Wednesday of what appears to be a new Yellow Jackets helmet for the team’s season opener at Virginia Tech on Labor Day next Monday with the words, “New Helmets…Lets Get It 9/3 http://instagr.am/p/O63dLulA44/“.
If real, the helmet is an absolute beauty. Instead of the boring “GT” logo, the Yellow Jackets will be wearing lids with an awesome golden wasp’s nest design (get it? they’re Yellow Jackets!) with what appears to be a white textured background, combined with black facemasks and a gold stripe down the middle.
This works a whole lot better than Maryland’s ill-fated turtle shells helmets last year and has the makings of an instant classic.
Come to think of it, the Yellow Jackets should never go back to their forgettable regular helmets now that they’ve got these instead. Grade: A+
