With the college football regular season winding down, it’s time for the annual rite of coaches whose teams are in the national championship race to gripe about the BCS.
Florida State’s Jimbo Fisher is one such coach in 2012. But he used a poor choice of words on Monday when asked about the Seminoles’ No. 10 BCS ranking despite being sixth in the USA Today Coaches Poll, responding, “How retarded is that?”
Later in the day, Fisher issued a public apology for his “poor choice of words.”
“It was brought to my attention I used a word during today’s conference that I did not intend to use,” he said. “That’s not the way I think. It was a poor choice of words. I didn’t mean to offend anyone in any way.”
When you’re lobbying the BCS on behalf of your team’s postseason viability, presenting yourself akin to Ann Coulter is a poor route to take.
