If you’re currently a student at Northern Illinois, how would you like to ring in 2013 by watching your football team play in the Orange Bowl? You can do so for free if you can cover the travel costs.
The school will offer one free ticket per student to the game, with the caveat being that students must pick up their ticket in Miami. The school’s official athletics website, NIUHuskies.com, will post several travel packages for students to choose from.
“We want our students to be a part of it,” SID Donna Turner told the Chicago Tribune. “We’d love to see a huge group of students get down to Miami.”
This is not a novel concept the Huskies are trotting out. The football team is making its fifth straight bowl appearance, and students were offered free tickets to the previous four bowl games as well.
Still, upon hearing that their Orange Bowl tickets were free, NIU students likely reacted the same way their football team did on Sunday when they learned they had crashed the BCS party.
