This summer, Lake Wales (FL) senior kicker Tate Mathewson and his dad drove more than 3,000 miles around the southeast visiting prospective colleges where Mathewson can play. Yet all that driving will likely be nowhere near as effective as what Mathewson did last Friday night.
In a 27–14 loss to Winter Haven, Mathewson unleashed a punt that went the entire length of the field.
After corralling a high snap at his goal line, Mathewson’s punt traveled nearly 60 yards in the air (no doubt aided by a strong tail wind). The ball took a massive bounce over the Winter Haven returner’s head and continued bounding until rolling out all the way back at the 3-yard line, for approximately an 80-yard punt.
Before Friday, Mathewson had drawn interest from UCF and Appalachian State. That list could grow after this video starts making its way around the internet.
