We suppose it was only a matter of time after back-to-back humiliating losses that Arkansas fans would start demanding the school to fire interim head coach John L. Smith en mass.
On the heels of a 52-0 blowout loss to No. 1 Alabama on Saturday, that’s now happened.
The Facebook page “Fire John L. Smith” that was started on September 8th – the same day Arkansas lost to Louisiana-Monroe in overtime – and has gone viral in the last two days. It now has over 14,000 likes as of 10:30 AM Monday morning. The description of the page reads, “Nice guy, but he’s got to go. From your friends at Arkansas Buzz.”
While not as famous as the legendary “FireRonZook.com” website a Florida fan created in 2002, the Facebook page is now receiving national media attention after a team entering the season with national title hopes now sits at 1-2.
The most recent post on the timeline reads, “If a guy had to start over somewhere, ‘John Smith’ wouldn’t be a bad name to have…”
It’s looking like the decision by AD Jeff Long to hire John L. Smith to a 10-month contract after the Bobby Petrino scandal and firing has now gone from a nightmare to a circus.
