Next Monday night the entire country will have its eyes on Landover, MD, when No. 3 Boise State squares off against No. 10 Virginia Tech. It’s hard to imagine now, but there was a time when both programs were irrelevant – and Boise wasn’t even an FBS program. While Virginia Tech and Boise State have had different routes to this point, there have been a lot of similarities in their rise to prominence. We examine them.

While I was VERY happy to see Alabama win the national championship last year I could NOT call them the “Undisputed” champions because Boise State was still undefeated. Since the name BCS stands for “Bowl Championship SERIES” then why not make it a series. IF the winner of the #1 vs #2 matchup is undefeated AND there is another undefeated team left then, and ONLY then, do those teams play an extra game to determine a championship. Don’t do away with any bowls, and DON’T start some complicated play-off bracket. Just add the extra game to the bowl championship “Series” if those circumstances exist.
