Since being selected sixth overall out of Syracuse in the 2009 NBA Draft, Jonny Flynn’s professional career has not gone as planned, as he has already been with four NBA teams.
Now, the 23-year-old Niagara Falls, NY, native is hoping for a remedy from Down Under. Flynn is reportedly set to sign a contract with the Melbourne Tigers of Australia’s National Basketball League.
“He’s in his prime and wanted to reinvigorate his career and we’re really excited about what he’s going to bring,” said Tigers coach Chris Anstey.
Flynn was the 2009 Big East Tournament MVP and led Syracuse to a Sweet Sixteen bid later that spring. The following year, he was an NBA All-Rookie Second Team performer with the Timberwolves, but hip surgery during the summer of 2010 led to a dip in his numbers and his subsequent vagabond journey.
Here’s hoping that his time in Melbourne is the first step back toward the standout NBA career most people had him pegged for in 2009. Jonny Flynn profile
