Ex-N’western LB Harris in Congress Race

Napoleon Harris spent a combined 11 years at Northwestern (1998–2001) and then the NFL (2002–2008). Now, he hopes for a long career in the political one.

The 33-year-old Harris was elected as State Senator for Illinois’ 15th Senate District earlier this month. Even before he’s taken office, he has his eyes on a higher prize: The congressional seat vacated by Jesse Jackson Jr.

“The primary reason I chose to run for the state Senate is the heartbeat and the pulse of my constituents,” Harris told the Chicago Sun-Times on Tuesday. “But over the last few months, we’ve gotten overwhelming support to put my name in the ring for the congressional seat.”

It’s inspiring to see the Dixmoor, IL, native tackle his political career with the same ferocity he used to wrap up opponents. We wish him luck in his second of what we hope is many campaigns. Napoleon Harris profile
