At Mississippi State and during his nine-year NFL career, Fred Smoot was never one for keeping quiet. Yet back in December, after he was arrested for a DUI, he didn’t bother telling anyone at the police station that nature was calling.
“During processing, in the service area, while handcuffed, the [defendant] peed his pants creating a puddle on the floor,” said US Capitol Police officer Seth Carll in the DUI affidavit. “[A police officer] witnessed the urine running down his pant leg and onto the floor. [Smoot] did not express that he had to use the restroom.”
Carll also noted in the affidavit that the arresting officer smelled “a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage emitting from [Smoot’s] breath and person” when he pulled Smoot over.
It’s impossible not to hear this story without thinking of Billy Madison.
