An actual pirate would have frowned upon the behavior of East Carolina Pirates guard Shamarr Bowden during Saturday’s game against UTEP.
Miners guard Konner Tucker had tumbled to the floor underneath ECU’s basket during a UTEP defensive possession. From behind, Bowden hit him with not one but two blows to the head.
To his credit, Bowden took to Twitter to apologize after the game, telling Tucker, “That’s not who I am I am bigger than that and it was out of character of me. I was confused at the moment of what was going on. Hope you accept my apology and good luck with the rest of yalls season.”
UTEP and Tucker got their karmic payback by game’s end in the form of a McKenzie Moore buzzer-beater that gave the Miners a 68–67 win.
