The legendary Duke-North Carolina is Wednesday night and we can only hope it lives up to the bar set by the student managers of both programs on Tuesday night.
In a tradition between the two schools, the managers squared off in a basketball game on Tuesday night at Cameron Indoor Stadium in what turned out to be an instant classic.
With the scored tied at 52-52 with 7.5 seconds left, Graham Vehovec got the ball in the corner for a wide-open 3-pointer that he nailed at the buzzer to down the Tar Heels. The Cameron Crazies in attendance stormed the court, the first court-storming in Durham since 2005.
“Someone’s got to send that to ESPN. That has got to be on ESPN tomorrow,” sophomore Sean Kelly told Duke’s student newspaper, The Chronicle. “We had a legitimate court-storming victory here tonight, I’ve never been a part of anything like that. That was comparable to rushing the field against North Carolina in football. And it was all the fans that made it happen.”
For North Carolina’s managers, this was a bad case of déjà vu after Austin Rivers’ 3-pointer at the buzzer to beat Carolina in Chapel Hill last season.
If they are a little slow getting water to Carolina’s players tonight, you’ll know why.
