What is it with mid-major guards and their penchant for ridiculous buzzer-beaters this season?
The latest gem came courtesy of Drexel’s Frantz Massenat on Wednesday against CAA rival Hofstra. Host Hofstra had just hit a game-tying 3-pointer to make it 52-all with 5.9 seconds left. Drexel’s inbounds pass went to Massenat in the back court, where he was nearly trapped by two defenders. He then double-pumped and threw up a prayer from midcourt that hit nothing but twine.
Massenat’s double-clutch miracle is scarily similar to what Saint Mary’s Matthew Dellavedova pulled off against BYU exactly one week before. Perhaps Massenat saw that Dellavedova’s shot was No. 1 on “SportsCenter’s” Top 10 plays and thought, “I want one, too.”
