Deion Shows Off Wardrobe at 1989 Draft

All-time great CB Deion Sanders was taken out of Florida State with the fifth overall pick in the 1989 NFL Draft, a selection that was memorable for the first professional appearance of “Prime Time” – a nickname derived from Sanders’ flamboyant appearance and personality.

Check the video below of Sanders’ post-selection interview, in which he looked dressed for an MC Hammer video. Sanders wasn’t shy then, either, saying that if the Detroit Lions had drafted him two picks earlier, he would have asked for so much money Detroit would have needed layaway.

It worked out for Sanders with the Atlanta Falcons, with whom he made his first three Pro Bowls. Sanders, who also played big-league baseball, made eight total and won two Super Bowls – one each with the San Francisco 49ers and Dallas Cowboys.

Sanders currently is an analyst for the NFL Network and had a bizarre incident Monday in which he said his ex-wife, Pilar, attacked him in his home. As an analyst, Sanders will get a firsthand view if anyone in the 2012 draft can top the combination of white suit, sunglasses and gold chains that remains unforgettable. Deion Sanders profile
