When Grand Canyon University in Phoenix becomes the first for-profit institution to compete in NCAA Division I sports during the 2013–2014 season, the Antelopes’ men’s basketball coach will be a familiar face to fans in the Valley of the Sun.
On Friday night, former Central Michigan standout and three-time NBA All-Star Dan Majerle told Phoenix’s KTVK that he is taking the GCU job. Previously the 47-year-old Majerle was an assistant coach with the Phoenix Suns (2008–2013) but resigned earlier this year after being passed up for the interim head coaching job following the firing of Alvin Gentry.
