Placekickers are typically advised to keep their heads down whenever they attempt field goals and PATs.
Colorado State kicker Jared Roberts, however, learned that onside kick attempts are not such a scenario.
With the Rams trailing Utah State 31–19 on Saturday, Roberts tried lagging the ball the required 10 yards. While keeping his eyes glued to the pigskin, he was brutally de-cleated by the Aggies’ Jake Doughty at CSU’s 42-yard line.
Doughty was bizarrely whistled for a 15-yard unnecessary roughness foul, but Utah State got to keep possession. Talk about insult to injury for Roberts and the 1–3 Rams.
