‘Clemsoning’ Listed on Urban Dictionary

In a move that many will consider long overdue, the word “Clemsoning” has now gone viral on the popular website Urban Dictionary.

If you follow college football, you can probably already guess the definition: “The act of delivering an inexplicably disappointing performance, usually within the context of a college football season.”

Entered last fall by the website Solid Verbal, the definition has gone viral this week after being tweeted by Sports Illustrated’s Andy Staples. Nebraska head coach Bo Pelini also has the, uh, honor of being listed on the site.

The above definition pretty much sums up Clemson football over the last decade, as the Tigers are routinely ranked very highly in the Preseason Top 25 only to disappoint in the fall. And when Clemson finally broke through for the school’s first BCS bowl last season, the Tigers “Clemsoned” all over themselves in a 70-33 loss to West Virginia in the Orange Bowl.

It would be only fitting that this GIF be added next to the definition:

Thats pretty sad considering they play in a 3 tier conference like the ACC. Any other program that is considered a decent football school would go undefeated in the ACC.

  • CollegeFootballFan

Just for the record, in the accompanying GIF clip, Clemson was victorious over FSU, 35 – 30.

    • grilldoggy

Exactly, my friend. It’s amazing how Clemson is held to a different standard – how many teams are going undefeated? How many teams win their conference every year? How many teams go to BCS bowls? This article has some interesting timing – Clemson is roping the moon with their latest recruits. Great football players want to come to Clemson, the future is ultra-bright.

That was a freebie 7 points Clemson gave FSU. Probably not a highlight Seminole fans care much to see, considering Clemson still won the game.

With a winning percentage of top 25 all-time in college football, Clemson is still better that 75% of the teams out there…

    • von Dutch

I rather like Clemson, but claiming you are better than 75% of all teams doesn’t help the argument much.

Clemson is expected to beat 75% of all the lower tier teams, but struggles to do so with the 25% they belong in, hence the definition of “Clemsoning”.

Maybe you should make an example of how 2011 Clemson scheduled the defending national champions, and beat them. They followed that with two more consecutive wins over top 25 teams. I guess those teams got ‘Clemsoned’, aka Clemson won. Clemson won 10 games last year with a terrible defense. So I guess you could say 90% of the country is busy getting themselves Clemsoned? You history-rewriting posers should find something better to do.

        • Cocky Mike

Damn shame you can’t beat your rival anymore… and by the way kudos to you for beating AU, but when you scheduled them after the 2008 season, they were a 5-7 team.

    Incomplete definition

It also must include unexpectedly beating favored oppnents.

You cant underperform if you are always expected to suck.

Awe. A Gump is upset about losing their lock of the century to Clemson.

Tajh looks like his knee was down…anywho, Clemson will always underachive, especially with the clown head coach Dabo “I slept w/my Mom in the same bed for 3 years in College” Swinney. Plus they just signed Dabo the Clown to an extension through 2017…Can’t wait to be them again.

Look, every year ClemTech’s fans are always screaming about a national championship, and every year they prove themselves irrelevant on the national stage.

Every season they lose one to a team that they just should NOT lose to. GT, NC State, DUKE, etc.

They have one National Championship that they literally BOUGHT and PAID FOR and since then they think they are on par with programs like Alabama, LSU, Florida, etc.

    ClemTech: YOU ARE NOT ELITE.

You beat the defending national champions? No, you didn’t. You beat a 5-7 team without Cam Newton. Newton WAS the national championship team. You also lost 70-33 in the Orange Bowl to an inferior West Virginia team because your players literally gave up in the middle of the game, telling the WVU players, “hey man, you don’t have to go hard, take it easy, you got the W”

Your coach is a cheerleader that vomits up retorts to things that other coaches didn’t even say. He is a cheerleader, nothing more, nothing less. Your town is a cow pasture. Your campus, mascot, stadium, everything is just a copy of Auburn, right down to the design of the buildings on your campus. There is nothing unique, special or endearing about your school. It should be called ‘Wanna-Be Auburn University’

You guys allowed more points than any other team IN HISTORY in a bowl game.

Go rope up the cows, put em in the barn and go the F home.

    • Shut-up. You love cocks.

I’ll never figure out why SCAR fans think ClemTech is funny. Is being a tech school a cut down? Tell GT and MIT to take it out of there name. It’s not like you are better than Clemson in anything academically.

You also have so much hate in your heart. You must feel so good to let it all out anonymously in the comment section of a blog. It must be all of those years of getting owned by Clemson in everything that has gotten you worked up. Maybe it was the rejection letter Clemson sent you. Who knows? Either way, you need to slow your roll, killer.
