Among the hopefuls vying for a spot on the U.S. Olympic rugby team for the 2016 Summer Games in Rio — when the sport makes its Olympics debut — is none other than former Ohio State RB Mauricee Clarett.
Despite having no prior rugby experience, the 29-year-old Clarett is now part of the Tiger Rugby Olympic Development Program in Columbus, OH, and appears to be taking this newest venture very seriously.
“He’s committed to try to make Rio in 2016,” Tiger Rugby director Paul Holmes told RugbyMag.com. “That’s Maurice’s plan. His footwork is phenomenal. He’s nowhere near conditioned for rugby, but that will come. … The stuff he’s doing in the gym right now, he’s just ridiculous.”
