With Cal’s NCAA tournament hopes dangling in the wind, things got testy between Golden Bears head coach Mike Montgomery and star player Allen Crabbe Sunday night vs. USC.
After falling behind 12 points early in the second half, Montgomery lit into the guard and gave him a light two-handed shove to the chest to show his disapproval. It led to an awkward scene in which Crabbe was visible upset, pulled away by teammates and took a moment near the team tunnel to cool down.
Crabbe responded with a 15-point second half to carry the Bears to victory, 76-68, but the exchange has sparked a lot of controversy about whether Montgomery crossed the line.
Time will tell if Montgomery is suspended over this dust-up.
