BYU football’s defense took a hit after two Cougar players tried dishing them out.
The football program has suspended sophomore linebacker Zac Stout and senior defensive back Joe Sampson for their part in a Halloween night brawl at a Provo fast food restaurant, the video footage of which has been released.
While neither Stout nor Sampson — or anyone else involved in the fight — have been charged with anything, both players have withdrawn from school. Considering how seriously BYU football under coach Bronco Mendenhall takes its Honor Code, the school’s reaction to the fight comes as no surprise.
Through 10 games this season, Sampson was eighth on the team in tackles (33) while Stout had only suited up for one game.
