Part of being a proven performer is all about playing to the crowd. Bono doesn’t just do that while performing with U2, as it turns out.
The 52-year-old musician was at Georgetown on Tuesday as part of the school’s Global Social Enterprise Initiative. Before discussing his role as an activist, Bono got in a few words about the school’s rivals.
“UVA, Thomas Jefferson, what have they done for you?” he told the crowd. “Syracuse, a school whose mascot is a fruit. Duke a school that worships the devil.”
It was Bono’s dig at Syracuse that really got the crowd going. So is Bono a diehard college hoops fan? Not quite.
“I will, of course, be dropping the odd cultural reference to give the impression that I know where your generation is at,” he also said. “I do not.”
