Big East coaches seem to possess a preternatural cool for answering unexpected phone calls while they’re being interviewed.
Nine days after Louisville’s Rick Pitino answered an incoming call to a reporter’s phone at a postgame press conference, Jim Boeheim was caught in a similar situation Tuesday while doing a live interview on ESPN’s “SportsCenter” for his 900th win on Monday night. The big difference was that it was his own phone that went off.
When discussing whether other coaches could get to 900 career wins, Boeheim received a call. Without missing a beat, Boeheim joked, “I forgot to turn my phone off. Which never rings, because nobody ever wants to talk to me except now. So I guess I need to win 900 more often, you know?”
Well played, coach.
